Sina Centurion Palace Venice and Ravagnan Gallery present “Bleu de Chine”

“The Sina Centurion Palace, a place where tourists from all over the world travel to, meet up and share stories, is honoured to be hosting one of the prestigious works dedicated to travellers by the French artist, Bruno Catalano.” Paolo Morra, General Manager of the Sina Centurion Palace, a Sina Hotels five-star luxury hotel, welcomes the sculpture, which represents the enigmatic character, “Bleu de Chine” (305 x 115 x 95 cm, bronze) by the artist Bruno Catalano. The work is being displayed on the hotel terrace and faces out over the Grand Canal. The Sina Centurion Palace is, in fact, one of the prestigious locations selected by the Ravagnan Gallery to host "Poser Ses Valises", a multi-site exhibition dedicated to the sculptor. In addition to the work which looks out over the Grand Canal, another two sculptures are on display inside the Hotel: Hubert (215 x 100 x 76 cm, bronze) and the delicate Vichinie (174 x 83 x 60 cm, bronze).

General Manager Paolo Morra inaugurated the work along with gallerists Chiara and Carlo Ravagnan and the artist himself, Bruno Catalano.

For the 58th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition, Les Voyageurs by Italo-French artist, Bruno Catalano will be spread over five different exhibition venues located between San Marco and Dorsoduro: the Church of San Gallo, the Goldoni Theatre, the Sina Centurion Palace, the historic Ravagnan Gallery located at 50/A St. Mark’s Square and the new venue at Dorsoduro 686. Les Voyageurs are astonishing bronze sculptures on which the central part of the body is completely missing. They are ethereal characters able to establish a dialogue with the world around them to the point of identifying themselves with it and will be staying in Venice on this occasion for six months, creating a new connection with the city.

Bruno Catalano Biography Bruno Catalano, of mixed Mediterranean origins, was born in Morocco in 1960. In 1975 he and his family were forced into exile. Having landed in Marseilles with the hope of beginning a new life, he still remembers the pain he suffered at being displaced. At the age of 18, he became a sailor, then an electrician; at 30 he became acquainted with art and clay sculpture through artists such as Rodin, Giacometti and César. From that moment on, he decided to dedicate his life to sculpture. Noted for the first time in 2005 by a Parisian gallerist at an exhibition of contemporary art, he moved on from clay to bronze and sculpted increasingly larger figures, producing truly remarkable technical feats. Today "Les Voyageurs" embellish the most prestigious private collections and are exhibited on a regular basis throughout the world.
